Place: Senigallia, Italy

Date of the placement: 01 Oct 2021 - 30 Jun 2022

Volunteers nr.: 4

Minimum age: 18

Topic: Activities with people in need in collaboration with Caritas in Senigallia (AN).

Description of the Project:

Volunteers will be involved in the activities of the association IL SEME in Senigallia, which aims to promote solidarity, citizenship, inclusion and support for disadvantaged people within the diocese of Senigallia. The association gathers all the people who volunteer within the services managed by Caritas Senigallia, which include first reception centers, apartments for the temporary reception of people in need, awareness-raising activities and other social services aimed at serving the most vulnerable people.

In particular, the volunteers will be involved in the following activities:

  • Support at Caritas “Centro di Solidarietà” adult hostel for people in need: the centre, opened since 1995, includes a homeless Shelter, temporary accommodation solutions, a listening centre, a soup kitchen and a day hospital. The centre has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the local institutions and it keeps offering high quality services to disadvantaged  people and adults in need. The volunteers' services include cooking and serving meals at the soup kitchen open 365 days a year; support cleaning activities and the collection and distribution of clothes; spending free time with the guests of the first reception center playing, proposing recreational and artistic activities or simply chatting with mostly lonely people;
  • Support the activities in “Casa San Benedetto” for single women and their children: From 2007, women with children or pregnant women living in difficult conditions, such as women alone and women victims of violence are temporary hosted in a nice colonial house surrounded by a big garden called “Casa San Benedetto” managed by Fondazione Caritas Senigallia Onlus.  The volunteers can be a fundamental support for those women who have often been victims of violence. The volunteers will support their social inclusion by creating social bonds that help women rebuild their lost self-esteem and identity. Volunteers are also helpful in reconciling work and parenting life, spending time with the children while the mother is at work or attending classes. Volunteers also help children with homework, creative activities, sports, games (even outdoors when possible). In agreement with social workers, volunteers can organize specific activities aimed at promoting the development and inclusion of children.
  • Support the organization of special events, such as celebrations, training courses, awareness-raising activities promoted by the Seme itself or by Caritas Senigallia. In these events, volunteers can have an organizational role, support logistics as a staff member.
