Place: Ancona, Italy

Date of the placement: 01 Sep 2020 - 28 Feb 2021

Volunteers nr.: 1

Minimum age: 18

Topic: Activities with people with disability in Day Centres and Residential Centres in Ancona (AN).

Description of the Project:

Centro Papa Giovanni XIII is a cooperative that manages Day Centres and Residential Centres for people with disability. Their users are from 25 to 63 years old and the activities the Centres offers to them are diversified and have educational purposes: the workshops usually change every week and also according to the season and the period of the year.

The volunteers will support the staff of the Day Centre and Residential Centre in the organisation and implementation of the activities. In general, the volunteers will support the staff of the Centre in socio-educational and recreational activities, like for example:

  • Theatre workshops.
  • Activities in cooperation with 2 museums in the city of Ancona.
  • Cooking workshops: they have a solidarity catering in which the users of the Centre are involved. They learn first how to cook thanks to the workshops and then they take part in the solidarity catering during party or events.
  • Solidarity wedding favours: some users of the Centre prepare on their own wedding favours with special instruments that have been designed for them to use independently.
  • Orienteering and autonomy/independence workshops: these workshops are intended to help the users to improve in terms of independence and autonomy. The staff  teach them and help them in practice with public transport, shopping and orienteering in the town.
  • Social media workshops: the users of the Centre post regularly on the Facebook page of the Centre and this is part of the workshop about social media and their safe-use.
  • Problem-solving workshop.
  • Sport Activities: the social workers combine the workshops with sport activities in the gym and swimming pool located in front of the Centre so that the users can keep active. Since they receive a lot of stimuli in general, they also organise relaxation sessions for them.
